Woodstock City and County Councillor, Bernia Martin, has been named as the newest Chair of the Board of Health for Southwestern Public Health.
OXFORD/ELGIN/MIDDLESEX - Oxford County Councillor Bernia Martin has officially been elected as Chair of the Board of Health for Southwestern Public Health.
The announcement was made this morning, with Elgin Councillor Grant Jones also being named as Vice Chair.
Martin was first elected as City and County Councillor for Woodstock in November 2022 before also being elected as Vice Chair of the Board of Health in 2023.
Cynthia St. John, Chief Executive Officer with Southwestern Public Health, says that she's looking forward to working with Martin throughout the year.
"Bernia will serve as a powerful advocate of the value of local public health, of evidence-based decision-making, and of demonstrating the return on investment we see when we protect and promote the health of all of our communities’ residents."
With her appointment, Martin says that she is committed to advancing public health in the community as well as creating a healthier, more vibrant place to live and work.
On top of the elections of Chair and Vice Chair, the board has also brought in two new faces including Catherine Agar from Salford as well as former Mayor of Tillsonburg Stephen Molnar. The pair are set to be acting as the board's two new provincial appointees.
Southwestern Public Health has locations in St. Thomas and Woodstock, working to ensure the health of Oxford County, Elgin, and St. Thomas.
