Changes Coming to SWPH Mass Vaccination Clinics

Starting November 1st, SWPH will no longer accept walk-in appointments at it's mass COVID-19 immunization clinics. The health unit is preparing for when it has the greenlight to administer the vaccine to kids ages 5 to 11.

WOODSTOCK/ST. THOMAS - Southwestern Public Health is going to suspend walk-in appointments at its mass COVID-19 immunization clinics.

As of November 1st, it's also going to expand capacity at it's Goff Hall clinic in Woodstock. The St. Thomas clinic will also move from the Southwestern Public Health office to the Memorial Arena Auditorium on November 8th.

This is all in preparation for when vaccine eligibility is expanded to include kids ages five to 11. The official announcement has not been made yet, but Jaime Fletcher, the Program Manager for the COVID-19 Vaccination Task Force, says they need to be ready.

“We know what is needed to quickly respond to expanded eligibility, and we have the teams and logistics in place again to be ready to serve.”

Medical Officer of Health Dr. Joyce Lock agrees.

“Early planning is needed to ensure we get vaccine out to everyone eligible, as quickly as possible.”

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on October 21st, that the federal government has procured enough of the Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine in preparation for when Health Canada gives their approval for the five to 11 age group.

Southwestern Public Health is going to offer evening and Saturday vaccination clinic hours once that happens, to make it easier for families to get their kids vaccinated.

You can book your COVID-19 vaccination appointment online here or by calling 1-800-922-0096 with extension 9.
