Oxford County will be spending upwards of $11-million to encourage future development in Tillsonburg. Major construction should be underway this time next year on North St. An Environmental Assessment has been completed for the project, and is open to a 30-day public comment period. Oxford Public Works Director Rob Walton says they've been working closely with the town to address concerns about the project. "They want this constructed as timely and efficiently as possible to not drag out the issues for the detours that will affect businesses. We're looking, hopefully through the budgeting process there's two of the construction phases we're looking to do in 2014, and hopefully the other two following that." Walton says that should pave the way for future expansion. "When the reconstruction of it is done, and the services are put in, it opens up quite an area of development in the north end of town. There is no sanitary sewer there now and there needs to be water main looping and drainage improvements and road right now, quite frankly is in poor shape." North St. will be completely overhauled with new sanitary pumping station, culverts, storm sewers and water mains, not to mention road reconstruction.
