A man who has been with the Woodstock Fire Department for two decades has been named Deputy Fire Chief.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Fire Department will have a new Deputy Fire Chief starting today.
Jeff Slager who has been with the department for the past 20 years has earned the promotion. For the past 15 years he has worked as a fire prevention officer. Slager tells Heart FM he loves working in Woodstock.
"It's a great department to be a part of; I was very fortunate 20 years ago to be hired here and everyone dreams of - if you want to be in the Fire Service - to work for your home town and so I have never really looked beyond that."
Slager says he is excited for his new role and will continue to work in Fire Prevention from time to time as well.
"It's kind of nice to be able to stay within my community here and add some new challenges to what I'm going to be dealing with. We have a great department and a great group of people working here and it is going to make my job a lot easier for the transition in."
