Asparagus season has officially started in Oxford County.
Farmers in Oxford County are starting to pull asparagus from the ground.
Typically freshly grown asparagus is available in Ontario from Mother's Day to Father's Day, however a number of farms in Oxford are already producing the tasty vegetable.
Sherry Turner from Turners Farm Market in Ingersoll says they have had it the vegetable available since April 30th.
"It has just started, we did this weekend with a very small amount, it was just starting to come up, but today I was able to get 200 pounds from local farmers, which sounds like a lot but it really isn't."
Turner says Asparagus is always the first vegetable out of the ground in Oxford.
"Asparagus is always first and then we usually follow that up in June with local strawberries."
Farmers markets in the County should have fresh asparagus ready for Mothers Day this year.
