Celebrating the history of Oxford County's Main Streets. That's what a new travelling exhibit will be doing in the months, and years ahead. Oxford Creative Connections teamed up with the Tillsonburg Annandale NHS Museum to come up with a collection of old photos of Main Streets. They've arranged them on several banners, representing each Oxford municipality. The banners were created through research of the Annandale Museum and the artistic flare of Oxford Creative Connections. Museum Curator Patricia Phelps says the photos date back from 1880-1910. "Main Streets are so important. They are the artery of every community, whether you are a tiny hamlet or the biggest city in the County. The Main Street has always played a key role in our communities, and what better way to showcase the diversity in the County, then by taking a look at those images. Through a travelling exhibit by way of a banner it makes it easy, it makes it portable and can be moved around the County." Cultural Co-ordinator with Oxford Creative Connections, Mary-Anne Murphy says early reaction has been positive. "People really like it because everybody likes looking at the old pictures. They can relate to different buildings that are still there, and see what's missing and what's been added since that time." The exhibit is on at the Woodstock Museum to start, and will be making its way around to all corners of the County.
