The MacKay Memorial Hospital in Taiwan donated 60,000 medical masks to hospitals and long-term care homes in Oxford County yesterday. The Tamsui District in Taiwan also donated 10,000 masks for the front-line healthcare workers across the County.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County received two PPE (personal protective equipment) donations from the Taiwanese community to protect local health care workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The MacKay Memorial Hospital in Taiwan donated 60,000 medical masks to hospitals and long-term care homes in Oxford County yesterday, and 10,000 masks were also donated by the Tamsui District in Taiwan which will be for front-line healthcare workers across the County.
Warden Larry Martin says the County says the County was appreciative of all the contributions.
“On behalf of Oxford County’s hospitals, long-term care homes, front-line healthcare workers and mayors, I extend heartfelt thanks to the MacKay Memorial Hospital and Tamsui District for their kindness. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected communities worldwide: we appreciate the consideration for the health of our community and the special relationship we share with the citizens of Taiwan.”
Representatives from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Toronto, the Canadian MacKay Committee and the Canadian Taiwanese Association were in attendance for the donor acknowledgement, which took place under public health precautions for COVID-19.
The contribution comes after a donation of 300 gowns and 50 face shields inJune, which was from the Toronto chapter of the Taiwanese Canadian Association to Ingersoll’s Alexandra Hospital.
The donation furthers the special relationship between Oxford County and Tamsui, Taiwan.
The special relationship was founded on the work of Zorra Township’s George Leslie MacKay, the first Presbyterian missionary to northern Taiwan.
The 20th anniversary of the twinning of Oxford County and Tamsui District, a relationship strengthened by economic and cultural partnerships, was on June 30th. This included the annual secondary school student exchange between Woodstock Collegiate Institute (WCI) and Tamkang High School in Taiwan.
