The South Gate Centre in Woodstock might undergo a pretty big expansion in the near future.
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock City Council has had its first look at a proposed expansion for South Gate Centre.
The project would add a triple gymnasium to the seniors centre. Plans also include a large atrium common area as well as a whole new second floor complete with meeting, community and physiotherapy rooms.
If the project gets the green light from City Council, Executive Director Chris Cunningham says the development will benefit everyone.
"During the day it will be predominantly filled by seniors and in the evening it will open to league play and other outside groups using that facility to goodness knows what in the community."
Cunningham says it would also help the centre deal with the silver tsunami.
"We're already turning people away and that's not okay. Status quo isn't good enough, I think the seniors deserve more than that and our community here in Woodstock and Oxford County deserve better than that. A facility like this will be answered prayers I believe for so many different people as well as the community at large."
Another delegation will also be presented to council at their next meeting, and it will provide more information including the cost and the construction details. Members of the public are also welcome to attend a special show and tell reveal of site plans at South Gate Centre on October 25th.
