WOODSTOCK/CAMBRIDGE - Employees at TMMC plants in Woodstock and Cambridge listed as close contacts to a person who tested positive with COVID-19 are still being told to go to work.
Several employees were contacted by the Waterloo and Southwestern Public Health health units saying they had come into close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19. The letter states they are required to self-isolate for 14 days until April 9th.
"During your self-isolation you may continue to go to work but you must go directly to work and home again. While you are at work it is important you maintain your isolation meaning you avoid any close contact of any co-workers until your isolation period is over."
Heart FM did reach out to the SWPH Unit for comment. Local Medical Officer of Health Dr. Joyce Lock issued the following statement.
“Following a focused and thorough onsite infection prevention and control (IPAC) assessment by health unit staff, impacted workers were identified by their employer and provided information in writing by public health. The letter employees received provides specific directions on what is referred to as work self-isolation, which is an option in case and contact management in some situations where it can be done safely. Our team is working very closely with Toyota to ensure any of the identified contacts attending work are doing so safely using appropriate IPAC measures. Additional health and safety oversight is being provided by the Health and Safety team onsite. We decline to share further details about the case and the follow up investigation due to privacy issues.”
Several employees have complained about unsafe working conditions.
