The finalists for the 2022 Oxford Reads book include From the Ashes by Jesse Thistle, Fight Night by Miriam Toews, What Strange Paradise by Omar El Akkad and Driven: The Secret Lives of Taxi Drivers by Marcello Di Cintino.
OXFORD COUNTY - The Oxford County Library and the Woodstock Library are excited to team up again for Oxford Reads.
Oxford Reads invites patrons to all read the same book and then discuss it together. System Support Librarian Sarah MacDonald says they need help to select the Oxford Reads book this year.
"We always pick a heavier book, something that really dives deep into issues that relate to us and our community. Right now, what we are doing is, staff at OCL and Woodstock Library have come up with a short list of what we think are four incredible Canadian titles that we would like you to vote on as the community, to select one book, you think everyone in Oxford County needs to read."
MacDonald says it is basically a County wide book club.
"There is something to be said about reading the same book and coming together as a group of people, reading the same book but coming away with different experiences. I always say to people, my favourite book club discussions are the ones where everyone hated the book, because it is always a lively discussion but I will say, you will not hate any of these four books. These are all incredible books and I cannot wait to hear what everyone things and what everyone takes away from these novels, because everyone will take away something different."
The books chosen include:
- From the Ashes, Jesse Thistle
- Driven: The Secret Lives of Taxi Drivers, Marcello Di Cintino
- Fight Night, Miriam Toews
- What Strange Paradise, Omar El Akkad
Oxford Reads will announce the winning title in June and extend an invitation to the author to attend the Oxford Reads Gala this fall hosted by CBC’s Chris dela Torre.
Voting closes on May 23rd and you can vote online here.
