The Woodstock Police Service is looking to spread a little good will with the KISS program.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Police are trying to educate the public about the dangers of driving under the influence with a KISS.
Woodstock Police Constable Nikki VanLeeuwan says they are borrowing the idea. "An OPP detachment from northern Ontario made up little cards that say 'Keep It Safe and Sober.' They attach Hershey Kisses to it and then at RIDE programs they hand that out to educate people about keeping it safe for the RIDE season."
While drivers are still adjusting to the new road rules that came into effect this week, Constable VanLeeuwan thought it was a good time to spread some good will."We decided that Labour Day Weekend would be a great time to launch the initiative and then we will be giving out these Hershey Kisses and education cards at every RIDE program throughout the 2015 - 2016 RIDE season. It's really interesting because when we do RIDE programs, people always ask for something, they think they're going to get something kind of like a reward for driving sober and I think that people are really going to like this."
The Woodstock Police are getting some help with this project."I think the biggest thing is it's about our community partnership," says VanLeeuwan. "The Bulk Barn donated over 5 000 Hershey Kisses and Woodstock Print and Litho donated the cards with the educational information on it. So we're really appreciative of the community partnerships that we have."
VanLeeuwan adds they were very fortunate during the August long weekend - no one stopped at the RIDE checks was found to be driving under the influence.
