Public Health's Healthier Choices workshop being hailed a success
Oxford Public Health's Healthier Choices workshop is being hailed a success.
More than 30 local residents including students from each high school in the County attended the workshop last month which looked at creating a recreational food policy for the County.
Manager of Health Promotion Susan MacIsaac says there were lots of great, fresh ideas brought to the table.
"Maybe we needed some more information that supports nutrition and maybe there was some modules that that Public Health nutritionists could go around to various sites in Oxford County doing education for youth, for coaches, for parents."
"They also suggested maybe some themes for health activity related to if you're doing hockey for one hour, how much activity do you have to do to burn off that big hamburger that you're eating or something like that so very keen and could we rotate it and this is what it would look like so great ideas, great suggestions."
"We will have a report that will go back to the people that attended as well as the community. We are also going to conduct a broader survey to really get some information back from coaches, teachers, parents, any representation to really draw out a significant percent of our population to get some more information."
MacIsaac says Public Health is considering running another workshop targeting coaches by helping them educate youth about food options that will help increase stamina and improve performance.
