'A Canadian Call to Arms' Raises Awareness for PTSD

One man will be trekking across the nation to raise awareness for PTSD and hopefully raise $100 000 to help those living with it.

There was the Evening of Honour, unveiling of the Woodstock Afghan monument, and now PTSD Battlecry is getting ready for 'A Canadian Call to Arms.'

Jeremy MacKnott is training 12 hours a day to get ready for a gruelling trek across the nation to raise awareness and money for those suffering from PTSD. "We decided to call the walk a Canadian Call to Arms. So I'll be taking off on April 11th from Cape Spear Newfoundland and making my way to Southwestern Ontario; coming through Woodstock, London, touching Point Peele Island. So starting furthest east, touch the furthest south and I'll be ending in Tofino, Victoria Island."

MacKnott says many people suffer from PTSD, and he wants to be a voice for those who cannot speak up. "First responders, military, civilians...Post Traumatic Stress effects so many different people in so many different ways. Sexual assault, tragic accidents, workplace tragedies. It effects 1 in 10 Canadians in their lifetime; 1 in 3 first responders."

For MacKnott this is a personal matter, but he hopes that this journey across the nation will make other people see how serious this is. "We put up an Afghan monument here in Woodstock and we started getting a lot of response back. More or less thank you emails - how it's helped them deal with their Post Traumatic Stress, how it's given them a place to mourn. I've worked with co-workers who are still dealing with Post Traumatic Stress."

The hope is to raise $100 000 to help train service dogs to help those living with PTSD. You can donate to the cause at PTSDBattleCry.ca
