OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County is offering support to help maintain The Inn's emergency overnight shelter services.
The County and Operation Sharing have formed a partnership, which will see the 55-bed facility at Old St. Paul's Anglican Church in Woodstock continue to serve those who need it. The County supported an expansion of the facility this year and the newest partnership solidifies the commitment to support the vulnerable and unhoused in Oxford.
The purpose of The Inn is to provide year-round shelter services to those who need a warm, dry place to spend the night. There is a daytime spot at College Avenue Church, which is run by Operation Sharing that supplies people with job training, employment assistance, counselling, and wraparound services like case management, mental health support, food assistance, and emergency financial aid through Oxford County Human Services.
Even though there is a partnership with Oxford County to ensure the emergency shelter program continues, the community still needs help with the services run during the day, program support, and security. The services require donations including, money, food, clothing, and other essential items. Volunteers play a huge role in making sure the meal service is run, donations are sorted, and fundraising efforts are in place.
Executive Director of Operation Sharing, Tim Dukes says he could not be happier with the support the County gives.
"We are grateful to Oxford County for supporting our emergency shelter services, which provide care for the most vulnerable members of our community. However, we still require ongoing support from the community and private funding to maintain our daytime programs and services to help people get back on their feet and achieve self-sufficiency."
Warden of Oxford County, Marcus Ryan mentions this program and resource is huge for the people of Oxford.
"The Inn is a crucial resource for residents, providing essential shelter and support services to those in need. We are dedicated to ensuring these vital resources remain accessible. Together, we are working to provide immediate relief for those experiencing homelessness while pursuing long-term solutions that foster housing stability for all."
The Inn located in Woodstock is open starting at 4 p.m. and runs 365 days a year.
Out of the Cold is another overnight shelter that is run by Operation Sharing, which is located in Tillsonburg at 60 Harvey Street, and is in partnership with Avondale United Church. The shelter opens at 7 p.m. and closes at 8 a.m. Also, the shelter operates from November 1st until May 1st.
