Premier Doug Ford stated today that our front line workers deserve a much needed break and mandated that grocery stores and pharmacies will be closed on Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
UPDATE: The retail council of Canada reached out to Heart FM to clarify some items from Premier Ford's announcement today. You can read their statement below:
"Retail Council of Canada wishes to clear up any confusion around grocery and pharmacy store hours of operation for the upcoming holiday weekend. Hours of operation for statutory holidays have not changed in Ontario and so it is business as usual. Pharmacies are currently allowed to operate during a statutory holiday. Grocery stores may continue to operate, if they so choose, in those municipalities that have a by-law in place to allow them to do so. We wish to echo Premier Ford’s important comments today about the value of our retail employees who are working every day to respond to the essential needs of Canadians."

ONTARIO - The Province of Ontario has announced that essential workers will get a much deserved break.
Premier Doug Ford says that all stores will be closed on Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
"I have an important message for essential workers. We have been listening to business owners and employees, the truth is that everyone working in our grocery stores, pharmacies, our truck drivers and those working the line, they have been working day and night for weeks to keep the food and medicine we need on the shelves. One way we are saying thank you, is making sure they have this Friday and Sunday off. They deserve a break and some quality time with their families."
Ford says the Province is mandating those closures.
"Stores will be open on Thursday, Saturday and of course on Monday and on wards. Let's give our workers the break they have earned. Thank you to all our heroes out there, our health care workers, our essential workers, all the care givers and truck drivers. You are incredible, we owe you everything, thank you and god bless the people of Ontario."
The Province also declared today Truck Driver Appreciation Day and are offering free coffee at all of the ONroute locations for truck drivers today.
