Stratford General Hospital will install a brand new CT scanner in the spring.
STRATFORD - Christmas came early to Stratford General Hospital.
They received a brand new CT scanner worth $1.3 million on Thursday.
Andrea Page, the Executive Director of the Stratford General Hospital Foundation says it will conduct about 12,000 scans a year for all ages, once it's up and running.
"We use it for our thrope unit, cancer detection, accidents, headaches, concussions; you name it. It is a work horse and it is the gateway into our hospital."
The new scanner will replace their older model in the spring. Their CT services will have to be shut down for two weeks during the transition.
Page says this donation wouldn't be possible without the support of the community.
"The provincial government does not support medical equipment purchases. So 100 percent of the CT costs and 100 percent of all the equipment within the hospital is really through the generosity of people like you and me."
The Foundation has raised about $900,000 for the scanner at this point, and they hope to raise the rest of the funds in the New Year.
