WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Police are investigating the lockdown protest at Museum Square on Sunday afternoon.
Around 300 people attended the rally according to a police estimate. The rally featured guest speakers and live music. Controversial pastor Henry Hildebrandt and Independent MP Derek Sloan spoke at the rally. Sloan was a guest speaker at the event in Norwich as well. Both men have received several fines during the pandemic.
Woodstock Police and by-law officers were in the area to monitor the event and act as peacekeepers. No fines or charges have been handed out at this time, however the investigation is ongoing. In a press release, Woodstock Police stated that people can be charged for attending these events.
"Woodstock residents have been largely compliant with the current restrictions, but police are reminding the public that participation in such events could lead to charges pursuant to the EMCPA and ROA. The stay-at-home order requires individuals to stay at home except for essential purposes."
This is a developing story and we will update with more information as it becomes available.
