Parks in the Township of Blandford-Blenheim are being targeted by vandals. This summer has seen multiple acts of vandalism, which has caused damage to multiple areas within the parks.
BLANDFORD-BLENHEIM - It has been a summer filled with vandalism in the Township of Blandford-Blenheim.
In a Facebook post, the Township is calling on its residents to keep an eye out for any cases of vandalism and report it to police if they witness it.
Township Community Services Department Manager, Trevor Baer says that it is not just one specific act that is happening.
"There has been quite a bit of vandalism, from spray painting, to broken windows, broken lights. We have had broken mirrors in the washrooms, some other destruction in the washrooms of ripping some doors off, to picnic tables being broken and vadalised as well."
Baer wants to see this stop as it does not only wreck the physical structures, it also impacts the collective sense of safety and community.
"They are the community spaces that these communities meet to socialize in. We would like them to keep an eye out for things and report it to police, so we can get a higher alert out to monitor vandalism."
He does add that if the people committing these acts are not caught, they might start to try bigger acts of vandalism because they think not getting caught with the small acts, it means they might not ever get caught.
The Township has this message for the community: Let us come together as a community to make sure our parks are enjoyable for all.
