There are many ways you can show your support during breast cancer awareness month.
October is breast cancer awareness month and the Canadian Cancer Society of Oxford County has a number of events happening locally.
Volunteers will be selling pink ribbons all month at local grocery stores and shopping centres with the proceeds going towards the society. Community Fundraising Specialist Liz Wismer-Van Meer says they are also doing the Grand Dessert Night again later this month.
"So that event is always a really fun night of fashion and food and some demonstrations and some live entertainment, so that is coming up at Craig Allen on October 20th and tickets are on sale now they are $30 a piece."
Wismer-Van Meer tells Heart FM why we have an entire month dedicated to breast cancer awareness.
"I think a lot of people can say they know someone with breast cancer, whether it is someone close to them, a co-worker family member or a neighbour, breast cancer impacts a lot of people and unfortunately in Canada 1 out of 9 women will have breast cancer."
A number of local junior C teams in the area are getting in on the action. The Woodstock Navy Vets will be hosting a Breast Cancer Awareness Night on October 2nd against Burford. The Tavistock Braves will be donning the pink jerseys on Friday October 9th against the Navy Vets and the Norwich Merchants are working with the Cancer society to organize a fill the rink with pink night in October.
