Females ages 14 to 18 are taking part in a camp, teaching them the skills associated with firefighting.
BLANDFORD-BLENHEIM - The Blandford-Blenheim Fire Service is hosting a camp.
It is year 2 for Camp 85, and Fire Chief, Drew Davidson speaks to what the camp is all about.
"Camp 85 is a camp for young ladies between the ages of 14 and 18. We are giving them the opportunities to experience what it is like to be in the Fire Service in all aspects."
Day 1 was Monday, and they learned hose advancement, carries, and lifts. For the rest of the camp, Davidson says the girls will learn ventilation with the help of EMS and OPP, using the jaws of life, and using air packs simulating what it would be like going into an actual fire.
Davidson says there is a decent-sized group taking part.
"This year we have 24 participants that are in our camp, along with 6 returnees that are acting as platoon leaders, along with approximately 40 firefighters throughout the week that will be assisting in the training."
Davidson says the group this year grew from last year, as 20 people participated. He mentions that most of the group would be from Blandford-Blenheim Township, with others coming in from surrounding areas.
