BEIJING - Oxford County's Ella Shelton and the rest of the Canadian women's hockey team won gold at the Beijing Olympics last night!
They beat the U.S. with a final score of 3-2. Marie-Philip Poulin scored twice and goalie Ann-Renee Desbiens made 38 saves to help secure the win. Ella Shelton finished the tournament with three assists.
Heart FM spoke with Ella's parents, Cathy and Warren Shelton, yesterday afternoon ahead of the big game. Cathy spoke with Ella on the phone earlier in the day and she sounded excited about bringing an Olympic medal home to Foldens.
"She's already talked about who she is making the rounds to and how she is going to squeeze it all in. So she definitely wants to bring it home and share it with everybody."
In other Olympic action, British Columbia's Marielle Thompson also won a silver medal in the women's ski cross final earlier this morning. This brings Team Canada's total medal count in Beijing to 20 so far; four gold, five silver and 11 bronze.
