The City of Woodstock will replace its Easter Egg Hunt with a fall event next year.
WOODSTOCK - It's official, the City of Woodstock will not be hosting an Easter Egg Hunt in 2025.
City Council approved a report from the Parks and Recs Department yesterday which included a few recommendations for next year. It suggested cancelling the Easter Egg Hunt and instead using those funds to host an event in the fall.
In an interview with Heart FM earlier this week, Mayor Jerry Acchione explained the reasoning behind this.
"They would be using the money that's been in that budget line for the Easter Egg Hunt, I think it's $14,000, and putting it towards something to spread out the events more throughout the year instead of it being so concentrated. Having something in the fall would be nice because we have a blank period from Cowapalooza up until the Santa Claus Parade."
The report also recommended that Cultural Canvas become part of Streetfest instead of being a stand alone event.
It was passed by council with a 4-3 vote.
City Council also approved a $155,000 budget for Cowapalooza 2025 during yesterday's meeting. A budget of $150,000 was approved for Cowapalooza 2024, but the City spent $156,500 in the end. The City used a $20,000 grant from Experience Ontario to offset the additional $6,500.
