BRANT COUNTY - Charges have been laid after a tractor-trailer unit lost two of its wheels on Highway 403 in Brant County.
Several people called the OPP at around 9:30 a.m. on Friday after spotting the traffic hazard close to Wayne Gretzky Parkway.
Officers say the missing wheels did not strike other vehicles, so no one was hurt.
The Brant OPP has laid charges against a 45-year-old from Woodstock, as well as Woodstock area business. Both parties have been charged with wheel separation, permitting the operation of a CMV while the load is not secured as prescribed, failure to have the required number of tiedowns, failure to secure the over-the-center tiedown tensioner by adequate secondary means, and failure to ensure tiedowns are taut for a CMV over 4,500 kg.
On top of these charges, the 45-year-old is also facing one count of driving a CMV in contravention of conditions, one count of failure to enter a daily inspection report, and one count of driving a CMV with a major defect in it or in a drawn vehicle. Their license has also been suspended for three days after they registered in the alert range while taking a breathalyzer test.
The business is also facing one count of failure to ensure the daily inspection is conducted properly, one count of failure to ensure performance standards are met, and one count of a CMV push rod stroke exceeding the prescribed limit.
