The Children's Aid Society of Oxford County is reminding everyone they have a duty to protect children in our community.
October is Child Abuse Prevention month.
The CAS in Oxford is helping to spread the message this October by educating the public. Executive Director of the Oxford Children's Aid Society Bruce Burbank tells Heart FM child abuse prevention is a community responsibility.
"A campaign to remind Ontario citizens that they have a duty to report suspected child abuse and neglect and also we take some extra effort to remind professionals who are working with children that they have an additional obligation under the law to report any concerns."
Burbank notes abuse can come in many forms, whether it's physical, verbal, sexual or simply neglecting a child and it can have lasting negative impacts.
"Nowadays I think we find more neglect than we do actual abuse, but there is still physical abuse, sometimes there is sexual abuse, and then there is neglect which can be chronic."
