Council signs off on generator purchase, to prevent future power outages
By spending $130,000 on a generator, city staff are hoping they don't have to go days without power again.
City Hall, the Market Theatre and a few businesses had their power restored Wednesday after a Monday morning electrical fire in a vault underneath Market Square caused significant damage and businesses to go without hydro for days.
City Engineer Harold deHaan made the request to sole source the generator from Sommers Motor Generator Sales in Tavistock, saying the City had bad luck with other companies they had used in the past.
deHaan says the new generator will be large enough to provide power all throughout City Hall and should be in their possession by early 2014.
