Marian Sterk was honoured at yesterday's Oxford County Council meeting after she was added to the Agriculture Hall of Fame last month.
OXFORD COUNTY - A new member has been added to the Agriculture Hall of Fame.
The Oxford County Federation of Agriculture recognized Marin Sterk, who is dedicated to her family and the farming community.
During yesterday’s County Council meeting, Vice President of the Federation, Danvia Garner and Warden Marcus Ryan presented the award to Marian. Her name was added to the Hall of Fame in the Oxford County Administration Building in March.
Warden Ryan expresses what this means to him as a member of the Zorra community.
“The contributions she's had to our community are unbearable. It's one of those people who's just out there in the community helping, but encouraging this person, teaching that person, and supporting another person. I think it's easy for those kinds of contributions that our community to get lost because not everyone sees it all the time.”
The federation added that she is more than a farmer, saying she's also a bookkeeper, volunteer, quilt maker, and much more.
Marian's effect on others has impacted people in positive ways, and Warden Ryan also adds his thoughts on that.
“When you look around our community it's hard, it's literally hard to find a person in our community that hasn't been touched by Marion Sterk in some way. I think in the long run that's just going to add up to great things. Hopefully, a resume or a community will come forward one day and say I want to be on council. I'm going to be a better mayor than Mayor Ryan ever was, and I hope that they do. And if they do it's probably going to be in some part because of the mentoring of people like Marian.”
Her role within the community will hopefully help and inspire future generations of agriculture societies.
