Police are urging to public to keep an eye on your pets as several coyotes have been seen in the city.
Coyotes have been spotted in the Friendly City near the Juliana Drive and Finkle Street area.
Police are warning the public to never approach these animals. Constable Nikki VanLeeuwen tells Heart FM they could view your animals as prey.
"If you are outside make sure you have noise makers, walk heavy, or carry something in your hand that makes a lot of noise. If you're out at night have a flash light with you and when you're walking your pets make sure they are on a short leash. We have had a lot of complaints about cats going missing, so if you have cat, I know a lot of coyotes will prey on smaller species like cats or squirrels so if you can keep your cats indoors, that would be strongly suggested as well."
Never feed a coyote. Keep your yard well lit. Use noise makers if you are going outside to scare the coyotes away. Don't run away or turn your back on a coyote.
The Ministry of Natural Resources has been notified.
If a coyote gets too close to your residence, pets, or children contact the police at 911 for an immediate threat or 519-537-2323.
