Over 100 racers competed in the Daffodil Dash on Saturday in Woodstock, raising over $11,000 for the local Canadian Cancer Society.
WOODSTOCK - The Canadian Cancer Society of Oxford County raised $11,300 on Saturday for the 7th annual Daffodil Dash.
Over 100 Racers braved the chilly weather on Saturday morning at Roth Park. They took part in a 10 K, 5 K and a kids fun run. CCS Community Fundraising Specialist Hailey Parliament says everyone who participated was racing to change the future of cancer.
"Daffodil Dash brings our community together to show that life is bigger than cancer, and encourages a healthy, active lifestyle, the best strategy, second to living smoke-free, that helps prevent cancer. With 1 in 2 Canadians expected to be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, bringing together a community to raise funds at such a fun event makes a difference to those facing cancer right now, and drives the CCS vision to create a world where no one fears cancer."
Everyone who completed the dash on Saturday was awarded a post-race daffodil bulb to take home and plant before winter for the flowers to bloom in the spring. The daffodil is the symbol of the Canadian Cancer Society because it is resilient; it survives our harsh winters and is the first flower to bloom in the spring, a time of renewal and hope.
