Perth OPP are reminding motorists to slow down and give plenty of space between vehicles after responding to 13 weather related accidents over the past month.
PERTH COUNTY - Perth OPP have responded to 13 weather related conditions since the start of November.
OPP are reminding the public to slow down and drive to the conditions. The distance required to stop a moving vehicle doubles when roads become wet or snow covered. Drivers need to increase the space between vehicles when the weather is bad.
Police say all 13 of these crashes were preventable. One of the biggest causes of collisions this time of year is people are simply going to fast for the conditions.
OPP are asking the public to plan ahead and give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination and are offering the following tips;
- Ensure that gas tanks are at least half full at all times
- Check that cell phone batteries are charged
- Purchase or prepare a winter survival kit for your vehicle
- Keep windshield washer fluid filled and carry an extra jug
- Clear windows and roof of snow and ice
- Use full headlights during poor or darkened conditions
- Day time running lights do not engage your tail lights and can make it difficult for drivers behind to see your vehicle
