Tick season has arrived early and PetSmart National Adoption Week is coming up later this month.
OXFORD COUNTY - A heads up for pet owners out there!
With all of the warm weather we've been getting lately, Anna Holmes with the Oxford County Animal Rescue says flea and tick season has started earlier than expected.
"All of the creepy crawlies are starting to wake up, and that's a couple of months early! So we need to make sure our pets are protected and they're given their flea and tick preventative because that is the easiest way to control the spread of illnesses because of those insects."
Holmes is the Foster Coordinator for the rescue and she says they're also overrun with cats right now, even though kitten season has not technically started yet.
"In the last week, we had 12 cats that were surrendered to us and only two were adults. So you will be able to see those kittens at our PetSmart National Adoption Week that's coming up."
PetSmart National Adoption Week runs from March 18th to March 24th and the Oxford County Animal Rescue will be at the Woodstock store on the Friday night, the Saturday, and the Sunday. The rescue currently has eight cats listed for adoption on its website.
If you would like to help the cause but can't bring a pet home yourself, the rescue needs monetary donations or donations of kitten food (IAMS or Purina Kitten Chow).
Holmes would also like to thank everyone who supported the Valentine's Day Bake Sale on February 10th. Over $800 was raised and they were able to fully vet four kittens with that money.
Anna Holmes called the Heart FM studio for her monthly chat with Dan and Marcie on Wednesday March 6th. You can listen to the full interview below:
