
The theme this year is Our Power, Our Planet.
OXFORD COUNTY - Earth Day has arrived in Oxford County.
This year there are two specific themes including Our Power and Our Planet, where they are hoping to focus on renewable energy. These themes come after Oxford County identified Enhancing Environment Sustainability as a key foundation pillar in their 2023-2026 Strategic Plan.
The Oxford County Library branches have been hosting special events over the past couple of weeks with professional speaker, photographer, and storm chaser, David T. Chapman. He has already been to the libraries in Tavistock and Harrington but he will be at the Thamesford library from 4:00 p.m. from 5:00 p.m. tomorrow and the Princeton library 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. tomorrow.
Reuseapaloozaha, a giant free swap meet to help promote zero waste, will also be taking place this Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
There will be a Home Efficiency Retrofit Orientation (HERO) virtual event on Tuesday April 29th at 6:00 p.m.. Oxford County is partnering with Humber College and Enbridge Gas to inform homeowners on ways to save on their utility bills and give information on how Oxford County is addressing climate impacts.
On April 30th at 6:30 p.m., the Tillsonburg library is hosting the ‘Crafts in this Climate’ event. The event will open conversations about day-to-day impacts of climate change while crafting. During this session, participants will be decorating planter pots and will be going home with native seeds.
The Water Conservation Program is coming back to Oxford County soon as well. This initiative limits outdoor water use over the summer months to save groundwater supply and ensure an adequate water supply for all residents. It begins in May and lasts until September.
