Education workers represented by CUPE have voted 73 percent in favour of ratifying the deal that was reached with the province, ending the whirlwind bargaining process.
ONTARIO - The Canadian Union of Public Employees has ratified the deal that was reached with the province.
President Laura Walton says about 76 percent of their 55,000 education worker members participated in the vote, and about 73 percent of them voted in favour of the contract.
The deal comes to a $1 per hour raise each year for the average member, which works out to about 3.59 percent annually. The deal was announced on November 20th and the ratification vote took about two weeks.
CUPE's education workers walked off the job for two days last month, after the Ford Government passed legislation which forced a contract on them in hopes of preventing the strike action. The legislation was repealed and both sides returned to the bargaining table.
