Oxford County will have an athlete at the winter Olympics as Ella Shelton will play for Canada in the women's hockey tournament.
INGERSOLL - Ingersoll's Ella Shelton will suit up for Team Canada at the 2022 winter Olympics in Beijing China.
Shelton is coming off a stellar performance at the IIHF World Women's Hockey Championship where Canada won gold with a 3-2 overtime victory over the US. Shelton was a key part of the defense that helped Canada to victory. She finished the tournament with 3 points; one goal and two assists.
Shelton grew up in Oxford County, eventually moving south to play NCAA hockey for the Clarkson Golden Knights, serving as the captain for her senior year.
Shelton led the Golden Knights in blocked shots with 81 during her junior year. She was also named a finalist for the ECAC's Best Defenseman Award during her senior year.
She will no doubt be excited to represent Canada yet again, this time in women's hockey at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games, Feb. 4-20 in Beijing, China.
