A commercial size van will transport food between the organizations involved in Food Rescue Feeding Oxford.
OXFORD COUNTY - A $25,000 cheque from Farm Credit Canada will benefit several organizations in Oxford County.
Bryan Smith, the Vice President of the STICH Supper Club, says they're part of a group that shares food with other local organizations that help address food insecurity.
He says they usually pickup donations from farmers and food producers using their own personal vehicles, which can limit the amount of food they can take, but that's about to change.
"It would be a whole lot easier for us to provide food, if we could take these large loads that we would have to turn down, put them in a large commercial sized van, and share them around among the partners in Food Rescue Feeding Oxford."
Smith says the money from Farm Credit Canada will help purchase this van, so all of the charities involved will reap the benefit.
"If we have excess when we have a pickup or its something that we can't use we can share it with Cycles of Life for their tables, or we could share it with Operation Sharing, or we could share it with Seniors in Food Crisis which has a list of about 700 seniors in Oxford County who can't get out to get food or don't have money for food and feel really left out of society. We can also share it with the Food Angels program run by South Gate Centre as well."
The Lunch Bunch is also part of Food Rescue Feeding Oxford.
If you would like to donate some food to the cause, Smith says you can contact the STICH Supper Club or another one of the charities involved.
