Final Council

Thursday's City Council meeting was the final one for five outgoing members including Mayor Pat Sobeski.

WOODSTOCK - The 80th meeting of Woodstock City Council saw the emotional goodbyes of several members of the council.

Four councillors: Bill Bes, Ron Fraser, Jim Northcott, and Paul Plant said their goodbyes in City Hall Thursday night. Not physically present was councillor Ron Fraser, who was medically unable to attend. Instead, he wrote a letter thanking the council, the City, and the Mayor, which was read by returning councillor Sandra Talbot. In his letter he thanked the "strong, knowledgeable minds" of council, and talked about how much he "enjoyed working for the City of Woodstock."

Also speaking in City Council for his final address was Mayor Pat Sobeski, elected in 2010. He thanked his council members for their diligence in running the city during their term, and commended them on their many successes during their four year stretch including the selling of Woodstock Hydro, Downtown BIA initiatives, and getting the ball rolling on projects like the University of Ottawa satellite campus.

"This council has accomplished so many things." Sobeski said. "I think we've laid a great base for the incoming council."

In speaking with Heart FM, Northcott shared his fondness of his eight years on council.  "I enjoyed the job, I enjoyed the people.  I thought it was the best job I had, being on City Council."

Bes also shared his pride about his time in office.  "I think we got an awful lot accomplished and I wish everybody the best for the next four years."

The new council is sworn in on December 4th, and includes new mayor Trevor Birtch.
