Firefighters are on the scene of a fire at Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute, causing a closure.
INGERSOLL - Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute will be closed for the rest of today.
The school's staff and students were evacuated this morning as firefighters responded at 10 a.m. to reports of smoke. The fire has been extinguished and firefighters remain at the scene.
Crews are continuing to work to clear smoke from the building. Parents can dismiss their child by calling the attendance line or by picking up their child at the arena and talking with a designated staff member, who will be wearing a safety vest. Normal end-of-day bus transportation will also be available at the arena.
Personal belongings will not be able to be retrieved at this time due to safety reasons. There will be an update given once the situation changes.
Classes are expected to resume as normal on Monday morning unless families are notified otherwise.
The Oxford OPP is investigating the incident as they are deeming it suspicious. Officers responded and are now looking for information regarding the person or people who are responsible for starting the fire.
