Five Impaired Drivers Charged in Oxford

Two of them were from Woodstock, two were from London and the fifth was from Ingersoll.

OXFORD COUNTY - As we head into another weekend, the Oxford OPP would like to remind everyone to think twice before drinking and getting behind the wheel.

Officers charged five drivers with impaired driving last weekend. Inspector Tony Hymers says this is unacceptable.

"Any instance of impaired driving is concerning. Certainly, five occurrences in four days illustrates how instances of impaired driving have a significant impact on traffic and public safety in the county. The Oxford OPP are committed to taking alcohol/drug-impaired drivers off our roads through enforcement and public education. We also want to take a moment to tell the motoring public that no amount of alcohol or drugs in your system is safe when driving. Whether you are impaired by alcohol or drugs, impaired is impaired and driving under the influence is a criminal offence. If you plan to drink alcohol or take drugs, don't include driving in that plan. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi or public transit, or come up with another option that takes driving out of the picture altogether. We at the Oxford OPP want to ensure everyone gets to where they are going safely."

A 25-year-old from Ingersoll was charged on Thursday March 27th, after a vehicle was spotted driving erratically on St. Andrew Street at around 11:45 p.m. The driver is now facing one count of operation while impaired and one count of operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over 80.

A London man was charged on Plank Line in South-West Oxford about 24 hours later. Officers spotted a vehicle driving erratically in the area and charged the 49-year-old behind the wheel with operation while impaired by alcohol, dangerous operation and failure or refusal to comply with demand. He was also charged with failure to report damage to property on a highway and driving a motor vehicle with unsealed container of liquor.

A 27-year-old from Woodstock was charged in South-West Oxford a few hours later. Officers responded to a crash on Hawkins Road at around 1:00 a.m. on Sunday March 29th, and they charged driver with being a novice driver with a blood alcohol level over zero. They were also charged with stunt driving and possessing more than one licence.

The OPP charged another Woodstock in Ingersoll the next day. A vehicle was spotted driving erratically on Thames Street North at around 5:00 a.m. and the 24-year-old driver is now facing a list of offences. This includes operation while impaired by alcohol, dangerous operation, failure or refusal to comply with demand, failure to comply with a prohibition order, and two counts of failure to comply with a probation order.

Lastly, a 52-year-old from London was charged on Plank Line in South-West Oxford almost 12 hours later. They're now facing one count of operation while impaired by alcohol, one count of operation while impaired by alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration over 80, and two counts of driving while under suspension.

If you spot a driver who you believe is impaired you can call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or call 911 if it's an emergency situation.
