Norwich Minor Soccer League gets a boost from the Norwich Optimist Club.
NORWICH - A $25,000 cheque was given to the Norwich Minor Soccer League on behalf of the Norwich Optimist Club to kick-start a campaign to build a new soccer club in the Township. President of the Minor Soccer League Heather McCall describes what she is hopeful to see happen.
"We were gifted a piece of land by the Township of Norwich to build a new soccer club, that will consist of 4 new fields for all the different age levels that we have playing, and hopefully that we will continue to grow upon."
Fundraising has begun to construct a permanent home for the League and McCall is pleased with the assistance they have received so far, "It is a kick-start it shows that we have the Norwich Optimists behind us.”
McCall said, “we have a goal to raise $435,000 towards our soccer field and that should get us to completion on that but of course we are looking for other sponsors."
The Soccer club could be brought to reality as early as this year and McCall is overjoyed at the fact of getting a permanent home for the organization, “We definitely have an interest in the Norwich area he had about 335 kids last year that registered and we're hoping that we can grow from that.”
“Right now we are just using land that we have over at the Public School in Norwich and that the community centre is giving us but we do have difficulties with those pitches. We just hope to make the community grow."
The club would be situated behind the administration building located in Norwich.
