The Coldest Night of the Year will be taking place on Saturday February 25th and all of the funds raised locally will be going to Operation Sharing.
WOODSTOCK - Fundraising for the Coldest Night of the Year has begun.
Donations have been coming in since last week and the goal is to raise $200,000 this year. Woodstock doubled the $100,000 goal last year by raising $211,000.
CNOY is a moment each year when tens of thousands of Canadians step outside the warmth and comfort of home to shine a light of welcome and compassion in their communities. CNOY has raised over $56,000,000 in 166 communities across Canada since it began in 2011.
Event Organizer Scott McKague says Woodstock has made his job easy.
"Thanks doesn't seem to cut it. In this event, nationally, there are a lot of groups that participate obviously and Woodstock is almost a folk legend right now, and that's not a joke. Everyone knows who we are and we're making huge differences."
Woodstock raised the fourth-most money last year nationwide, competing against cities that have been taking part in this event for 13 years and have much larger populations.
Already this year, the Friendly City has raised over $12,300, with 45 walkers, 15 teams, and six volunteers signed up.
The walk will take place on Saturday, February 25th, and it will start at 5:00 p.m. All of the proceeds raised locally will be going to Operation Sharing and you can find more information online here.
