The Future Oxford model is now going to integrate environmental sustainability with the goals included in Oxford's Strategic Plan.
OXFORD COUNTY - Future Oxford is about to celebrate its 10th anniversary.
The committee and community sustainability plan were established in 2015 to look at the future of the economic, social, and environmental environment in Oxford County.
It was entirely resident-driven and Warden Marcus Ryan says it's hard to believe 10 years have already gone by.
"I remember before I was on council, being in one of those engagement sessions and talking about what it was going to be like and it was really exciting. Now I look back and so many of those things are just embedded now in policy and how we conduct our business. It really is a victory for resident engagement!"
He adds a lot has happened over the past decade.
"It's kind of reached the point where a lot of things they advocated and educated for have now been embodied in Oxford County and area municipal policies, so this is the time for us to transition from talking about these being important to now that we have them in policy, how do we get these things done."
County Council looked over a report from staff earlier this week, that recommended the Future Oxford model change so it could integrate environmental sustainability with the goals included in Oxford's Strategic Plan.
