Local students will be featured in the latest instalment of the Emotional Animal Alphabet book series.
WOODSTOCK - First Kindness Kangaroo and now Empathy Elephant.
Woodstock native Sandra Wilson will hold a book launch for the latest installment of her Emotional Animal Alphabet book series just outside of Eastdale Public School on July 28th.
She says some of the students helped her write the book itself.
"We went into a Grade 2 class at Eastdale Public School to talk about empathy and they helped write Empathy Elephant and illustrated it. I also did Loveable Lion and Reckless Raccoon at that school with two Kindergarten classes so those ones are in production."
Wilson says she looks to children when writing her books, because no one understands kids emotions better than kids themselves.
"In Kindness Kangaroo for example; a little girl said kindness meant giving a paper heart. I don't think I would have come up with that on my own because I'm kind of beyond that idea, but if you're writing for kids you need to be where they are in their ideas."
Wilson's books will be available at the Empathy Elephant Book release on July 28th. It will take place between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. just outside of Eastdale Public School.
Wilson is also on the lookout for businesses who may want to sponsor the series. They would have their logo included inside the book and help her pay for the printing cost. Wilson would love to see her books in local schools and libraries someday.
