The community came together to get the new accessible playground up in record time.
INGERSOLL - Sometimes it takes a community to build a playground.
Playright Playgrounds is putting the finishing touches on the brand new accessible playground in Ingersoll at Victoria Park. 200 volunteers came out to help build the playground over a four day period last week. Volunteers helped with installation of the equipment and they had numerous local businesses sponsor equipment and food for the volunteers.
The grand opening is happening on Friday with a BBQ starting at 5 p.m. where they will be serving up hamburgers and hot dogs and the price is by donation only. The actual ribbon cutting ceremony starts at 7 p.m. and will include speeches from local dignitaries and the park's namesake. They will cap the night off with the annual Movie in the Park at 9 p.m. where they will be showing the kids movie 'Home.'
Executive Director of Playright Playground Dave Cripps tells Heart FM what makes this playground so special. "It's actually one of the largest accessible playgrounds in South Western Ontario; it's got everything from ramps which are connected to the existing walking path, it has sign language panels and a number of tactile and century pieces that kids can play with, and it's huge and awesome looking."
Cripps says the playground cost $250 000 to build with most of that money coming from a Trillium grant. They also were given $50 000 from the Ingersoll Community foundation and $25 000 from the Ingersoll Kiwanis Club.
