A senior was duped out of $1,000 after falling victim to a popular scam.
The OPP are warning the public about the so called grandparent scam after another local senior was duped out of $1,000.
Police were called on Wednesday night after a senior in Norfolk received a call from someone claiming to be their grandson. The scammer told the senior they were in jail and needed $1,000 in bail money before he was allowed to leave. The money was forwarded through a money transfer service.
OPP are warning the public that this is a scam and a very popular one at that. They advise you to never wire money after getting a request via the telephone. If someone calls claiming to be a relative, you should ask them personal questions that only your family would know and please do not forward any funds without speaking to a family member first.
