Oxford County Council discussed potential green bins at their latest meeting. Staff submitted a report, and council will be looking into the pros and cons of a green bin program, before making a decision.
OXFORD COUNTY - A green bin program was discussed at the latest Oxford County Council meeting.
The meeting took place yesterday (Wednesday, October 25th).
Warden, Marcus Ryan says this is not a cut and dry answer.
"This was not a final decision as to whether to implement this or not. What it was, was a report from staff on how we can advance Oxford's goal of zero waste through a green bin program."
Ryan says the report states how the County would start looking at the potential of a Green Bin program, such as cost and how it would work.
He adds, there are going to be costs to investing, but could also save money with compost not going to the landfill.
Ryan says staff will still have information to give to Council.
"There will be at least one more report on this, frankly I would expect two, three more reports on this for council before we ultimately decide to do this."
Ryan adds, having a green bin program would remove compost waste from the landfill, which would then help the environment.
