GUELPH - Butter appears to be a hot commodity for thieves in the City of Guelph.
Guelph Police have responded to seven large-scale butter thefts in the past 10 months. The most recent cases happened in the past couple of weeks.
Police say two men entered a business on Speedvale Ave East at around 7:45 p.m. on Saturday October 12th. They placed several items in their cart, including three cases of butter, and walked out of the store. The butter alone was worth $936 in this case.
Both of the suspects are believed to be in their 40s with brown skin, standing at about 5'7" with a medium build. One of them was wearing a dark sleeveless vest with a white baseball cap at the time of the theft, while the other was wearing a dark winter coat with a red baseball cap.
Police say both men left the scene in a white four-door sedan.
Another theft took place on Eramosa Road four days later. Police say two men placed four cases of butter in their cart and left through the emergency exit. The butter in that theft is worth $958.
The suspects in this case were also described as having brown skin. One was wearing a tan jacket with black pants and a black winter hat. The other person wore a black jacket, with black pants and a black baseball cap.
Police say it's unclear if all of the butter thefts are connected at this time.
