Ernie Hardeman stopped by the Heart FM studio after his ninth election win as the PC MPP for Oxford County.
OXFORD COUNTY - Ernie Hardeman will continue to serve as the Conservative MPP for Oxford County.
He celebrated his ninth election win last night, after first being elected to the position in 1995.
In an interview on Heart FM this morning, Hardeman said he's grateful for the opportunity to serve the people of Oxford for another four years.
"Each election is the report card on the last term. That is why this is so important to see the numbers go up from the first election to the ninth election."
He secured 27,061 votes yesterday which was 55.3 percent of all of the votes cast in Oxford County. He will be serving under a majority Progressive Conservative government and the NDP will serve as the official Opposition.
Hardeman said the Ford Government is ready to continue the fight against the proposed 25 percent tariffs from the United States.
"What is so important here is we will be the Government of Ontario when President Donald Trump finishes his term. We will be around longer than he us, and that is what I think the Premier was pushing all along, is to make sure they can't just hold us in advance until our term is over."
Hardeman also told Heart FM that he's excited to see the HART Hub come to fruition in Woodstock over this next term, because the number of people experiencing homelessness and addictions has been growing across Oxford County and the rest of the province.
"It's nobody's fault, but we haven't been working on that hard enough I believe to deal with that problem. It's been growing, everybody knows it, but for too many years we've had too many people fighting over who is supposed to do it. We finally have a proposal, the province has approved it, so I think we're on our way to get it done."
Hardeman also discussed the following matters during the interview:
- The cleanup process for his election signs.
- His thoughts on the voter turnout.
- When the next election will be taking place.
- His thoughts on the Liberals getting 30 percent of the popular vote but only 13 seats at the Ontario legislature.
- His thoughts on today's Daily Debate: do actually wash your feet in the shower or do you just let the water run over them?
