After 120 years on Clarke Road the HSLM is looking to move to the east end of the City so they can continue to be a safe haven for pets from London, Middlesex, Oxford and Elgin.
LONDON - The Humane Society of London-Middlesex is looking to build a new community shelter in the east end of London.
The humane society also services Oxford County. They have partnered with Old Oak (seller) to submit a zoning application to the City of London for their future home.
The HSLM has been located at 624 Clarke Road in London for 120 years. During this time, over 240,000 pets have passed through its doors.
The current building is a series of construction projects and retrofits, resulting in a combined 9,800 square foot facility sitting on just under one acre of land.
Staff and volunteers have kept up the needs of the aging infrastructure over the years, however it's time for a new building. Executive Director Steve Ryall says they are proud to share that they have moved into the first stage of the Zoning Application, Zoning By-Law Amendment with the City.
“This is a very exciting time for HSLM, our cumulative work these past 120 years has lead to the need for our shelter to grow so that we can better serve our community and continue to be the safe haven for pets in the City of London and counties of Oxford, Elgin and Middlesex”
The new shelter will be located at 1414 Dundas St, London, ON. Updates on the development of HSLM’s new shelter can be found at www.hslm.ca/newhomenewhope.
