Property owners who don't want hunters on their property must post 'No Trespassing' signs.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford OPP are looking to cut down on the number of calls their receive during hunting season. Calls range from mischief and trespassing to injury. Constable Lisa Narancsik says first and foremost they want hunters to remain safe.
"Making sure that they have all of their licenses in order for their weapons, that they are hunting in a safe manner and that they are following all of the rules and regulations."
"They want to make sure that if they are going on to private property that they are getting permission from the property owners, otherwise we could be getting, the police could be getting calls in regards to tresspassing."
She adds, property owners also have a responsibility to place 'No Trespassing' signs along their property should they not want hunters. Narancsik says any damage caused to private property by hunters could result in Criminal Charges.
"They want to make sure that they have the proper gear on, so their florescent gear. Sometimes there is group hunting. They want to make sure that they know where those people are because we don't want any mishaps. Make sure that they are handling their firearms in a safe manner as well because sometimes things happen and whether it's that someone else is involved or just themselves with injuries."
