Ingamo Homes Celebrates 35th Anniversary

Ingamo Homes will be opening its doors to the public tomorrow in honour of its 35th anniversary.

WOODSTOCK - Ingamo Homes is celebrating its 35th anniversary in Oxford County.

It offers a second-stage transitional housing program for families in need. They usually come from a first-stage crisis centre like Domestic Abuse Services Oxford (DASO) and they stay with Ingamo for about one or two years until they're back on their feet and ready for a fresh start.

Executive Director Diane Harris has been with Ingamo for 34 years, starting out as an Executive Assistant.

"We were very small in the beginning. We took our first family in in March of 1989 and we weren't very full in the beginning, but now we have a waitlist of over 30 families."

The facility located at 432 Springbank Ave North in Woodstock houses 12 units with two bedrooms, eight units with three bedrooms, one single bedroom unit, and one accessible unit.

In honour of the anniversary, Ingamo will be hosting a special open house from noon to 2:30 p.m. tomorrow, with the opening remarks scheduled for 12:15 p.m.

Fundraising and Communications Coordinator Sophie Foster says the open house will feature an interactive tour of the Springbank Ave facility called Navigating the Facility.

"So you will get an inside look into an actual unit and see where people stay, but along the tour you'll actually get to meet the staff and see what it looks like to come to Ingamo and what services are provided as well. So it's kind of an interactive fun tour, but the hope is to have you leave mulling over the work that we do at Ingamo."

It's free to attend and you'll also be able to enjoy fruit and sandwiches from Whisk & Roll Bakery, in addition to some coffee, iced tea, and lemonade from Early Bird Coffee.

Diane Harris and Sophie Foster stopped by the Heart FM studio to chat with Dan and Marcie on Tuesday June 18th. You can listen to the full interview below:
