Ingersoll looks at potential changes to their building fees to help cover the cost of planning and engineering services.
INGERSOLL - Ingersoll is taking a long look at the current price they set out for building permits, along with the planning and engineering fee structure.
They held a public meeting on Tuesday night to present the public with a new fee structure which will be voted on by council at a later date. The current building by-law for the town of Ingersoll was passed in 2005 and hasn't been changed since.
CAO for the town William Tigert says the goal set out for the town was to look at the current costs to provide that service. Tigert says right now they are not bringing in enough revenue to actually provide the service, and that means extra costs are then paid out by rate payers.
Currently the town does not charge any fees for engineering and planning services. The Building Permit Fee Review Study indicates that changes to the building fees schedule could see projected revenues of $190 000 - $239 000 every year. Right now the town only brings in between $125 000 - $150 000.
Council will vote on the proposed changes at the next council meeting.
